What Our Essays Return To: Water, Work and Slow Travel

Michoacán is often described as a state of two waters. To the west lies a long Pacific shoreline, stretching from the mouth of the Balsas River near Lázaro Cárdenas up toward the Colima border, with beaches, river estuaries and small fishing settlements in between. Inland sit the highland lakes, Pátzcuaro above all, along with smaller bodies of water such as Zirahuén, surrounded by pine forest and Purépecha towns. Our essays move between these two worlds.
