Welcome to Huron Azul! We invite you to share your unique perspectives and insights through essays that resonate with our coastal travel theme.

Huron Azul serves as a platform for op-ed essays, Costa Azul guides, and reflections on the enchanting lake towns inspired by Costa Azul Huron. We aim to provide original content that captures the essence of this beautiful region.

Submission Guidelines

We encourage pitches that offer fresh viewpoints and contribute to the ongoing conversation about travel and culture in the Costa Azul region. If you have an idea that aligns with our mission, we would love to hear from you!

What Makes a Pitch Stand Out

A strong pitch is short, specific and honest about what the finished essay will do. Before you write the full piece, send a few paragraphs that tell us the central idea, why it matters to someone planning time on the coast or around Morelia, and what you personally bring to it. Editors read many pitches, so the opening lines should make the angle clear without a long warm-up.

Start with a sharp angle

"A weekend on the coast" is a topic, not an essay. A pitch becomes compelling when it narrows down to a question or an argument. Examples: why a quiet lake town is better visited midweek, what changes when a fishing village starts courting tourists, or how the drive from the highlands to the sea reshapes your sense of Michoacán. Op-ed pieces in particular should take a clear position and be ready to defend it with observation and experience.

Show us the detail

Include one or two concrete moments you plan to use: a conversation at a market stall, the rhythm of a morning on the water, a meal that surprised you. Specific, sensory detail signals that the essay comes from real time spent in a place rather than from a brochure. If your idea leans practical, explain what a reader will be able to do differently after reading it. Our Coast Guide and Itineraries pages give a sense of the practical ground we already cover.

Be accurate and fair

Essays may be personal, but facts still matter. Check names of places, routes and local customs, and avoid presenting prices, schedules or opening hours as fixed, since these change often. Write about communities with respect, and when you describe people, focus on what you observed rather than generalisations.

Practical points for your pitch

  • Include a working title and a two- or three-sentence summary.
  • Mention whether the piece is an op-ed, a reflective essay or a guide-style narrative.
  • Note any relevant background, such as how often you have visited the region.
  • Tell us if the idea is time-sensitive, for example tied to a season.

You can read past contributions in our Essays section to get a feel for tone before you send your idea.
