What a Typical Issue Looks Like
Each issue is built around a single theme rather than a scattered list of headlines. One month might follow the shoreline from the quieter lake towns to the busier beach stretches; another might focus on travelling in the rainy season, when roads, ferry crossings and market days can shift with the weather. The aim is to give you something you can actually use when planning a trip, not just something to skim.
Most issues include a few recurring parts:
- A short essay drawn from our essays, looking at how coastal and lakeside communities change with tourism, seasons and new roads.
- A field note on one place: what makes it worth the detour, how to get there, and what to expect once you arrive.
- A planning tip on practical matters such as packing for humidity, carrying cash for small towns, or timing long drives to avoid travelling after dark.
- Pointers to updated pages, such as revised sections of the Coast Guide or new suggested routes in our itineraries.
How we handle event and local news
When we mention festivals, markets or seasonal happenings, we describe what they are and why they matter to visitors. We don't print dates or schedules unless we can confirm them. Local events in coastal Mexico often move at short notice, so we always recommend checking with organisers, tourism offices or your accommodation before you travel.
Your inbox, your terms
We keep the newsletter occasional, so it won't crowd your inbox. Every issue lets you unsubscribe easily, and we don't share subscriber addresses with anyone. If you have a question about a destination, or a place you think we should cover, replies are welcome. Reader suggestions often shape what we write next.
